Samsung has launched a national youth-focused innovation and education competition, Solve for Tomorrow, inviting contestants ages 16-22 to contribute innovative ideas that are relevant to the people and communities around them. Ideas are invited in the fields of education, environment, health and agriculture, which are priorities of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) for India.
The annual event will culminate in the grand announcement of three national winners who will have the opportunity to receive mega support of up to ₹1 crore and six months of mentorship to take their ideas to the next level under the expert guidance of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. They will have access to the institute’s Incubation Centre. During these six months, they will work on their ideas and bring them to a level where they can ask consumers about the validity of their prototypes.
The winning team will also receive an 85-inch Samsung Flip interactive whiteboard for their respective schools and universities. Interested candidates can apply at Samsung.com till 5 pm, July 31, 2022.
For the competition, the top 50 teams (individuals or teams of up to three members) will be mentored by the industry experts from IIT Delhi and the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT). There is also a boot camp at IIT Delhi, certificate of participation and a ₹1,00,000 voucher for an online course on design thinking, STEM, innovation and leadership.
The top 10 teams will have the opportunity to visit the Samsung India office in Bengaluru, its R&D centre and the Samsung Opera House, where they will interact with young Samsung employees and researchers.
Each participant of the 50 selected teams will receive a certificate of participation and a course bonus of up to ₹1,00,000.
After teams submit videos of their concepts and prototypes, a panel of Samsung expert judges will select 10 teams to advance to round three. Selection criteria for this round will include concept development from the presentation of original and demonstrable use of research to understanding the needs of the target audience and/or the quality of the presentation of ideas for testing, performance and design.
