Karnataka cabinet approved two major drinking water projects worth Rs 825 crore to provide pure drinking water to households through taps in Ramanagara and Magadi taluks of Ramanagara district.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday after the meeting, the Minister in charge of Ramnagar District, CN Ashwatha Narayan, said that these projects under the Jal Jeevan mission will provide drinking water to 365,000 people in the two taluks.

“The first project, Manchabele Reservoir Project, will be implemented at a cost of Rs 670 crore and the second project will supply water from YG Gudda Reservoir which will cost Rs 155 crore. Manchanabele project comprises 625 habitats in Magadi taluk and 250 habitats in Ramnagar taluk, YG Gudda project comprises 94 houses in Ramnagar taluk and 72 houses in Magadi taluk,” explained Narayan.

In total, these projects provide clean drinking water to 39,816 households in Ramnagar taluk and 47,283 households in Magadi taluk. “The deadline was set at 23 months for the Manchanbele project and 15 months for the YG Gudda project. The projects are implemented taking into account the requirements after 30 years based on the projections for the year 2053.

In Kanakapura taluk, the PSR is being prepared to supply water to 255 houses from the Rawatanahalla reservoir under the multi-village water supply scheme. In the coming days, more houses in Kanakapura and Channapatna taluks will be covered by clean drinking water projects.

Currently, Ramnagar district ranks second in the pure drinking water supply after Gadag district which has reached 100% tap water supply. “The government had made sure to provide clean drinking water and now, thanks to cabinet approval, they have made their point. For making this possible, I especially thank the Chief Minister on behalf of the people of the district,” said Narayan.

These projects will be implemented according to the DBOT model. As part of the Manchanabal project, a jack well will be built in the Manchanabele reservoir to verify the use of groundwater. The Department of Potable Water and Rural Sanitation will be the nodal body for these projects.
