Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Minister of State for Earth Sciences, said today that India’s future progress is dependent on a science-driven economy

Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Earth Sciences; and Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy, and Space, said today that India’s future growth is dependent on a science-driven economy. Dr Jitendra Singh, speaking at the Ministry of Earth Sciences‘ Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav week’s inaugural session on “Role of Research Technology & Start-ups in Blue Economy,” said that India is celebrating its 75th year of freedom under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and stature as the world’s most popular leader, according to Dr. Jitendra Singh, has granted India an unprecedented admiration that was never shown in previous decades. Significantly, Prime Minister Modi possesses a remarkable knack for science-driven advancements, allowing all scientific programmes to focus on applications that are relevant to the everyday lives of ordinary people. According to Dr. Jitendra Singh, India’s blue economy is a subset of the country’s economy that includes a complete ocean resources system as well as human-made economic infrastructure in the country’s legal jurisdiction’s marine, maritime, and onshore coastal zones. It helps to produce commodities and services that have clear links to economic growth, environmental sustainability, and national security, according to him. According to the Minister, the blue economy represents a huge socio-economic opportunity for coastal nations like India to appropriately use ocean resources for social benefit.

The Minister defined “Earth Sciences” as “the study of the earth’s atmosphere and the water flowing on and beneath the surface, as well as the earth’s seas and oceans.” India’s seas are our treasures, he said, and the Modi government’s “Deep Ocean Mission” heralds another another vista for harnessing numerous resources to strengthen the “Blue Economy.”
