The Ministry of Labor Welfare and Employment is organizing campaigns and camps for the registration of unorganized workers on the e-Shram portal. One such camp was held on Thursday, at the Shram Shakti Bhavan, New Delhi for unorganized workers working in various ministries in the building. More than 80 workers were registered on the portal.

Rameshwara Teli, Minister of Labor and Employment and Petroleum and Natural Gas, who inaugurated the camp, urged everyone to be aware and spread the word about the portal and the benefits of registering on it.

Creating a national database of information of unorganized workers would help the government to focus on targeted and grass-roots welfare schemes for the unorganized workers, Raneshwara Added.

Mr. Teli said that there were over 27 lakh unorganized workers registered since the inception of the portal. He added that the Union Government was actively collaborating with State Governments and other stakeholders to register the workers on the portal.

Listing the benefits, the Minister said that registration also provided accident insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh. If a worker was registered and was injured in an accident, he or she would be given Rs. 2 lakh on death and Rs. 1 lakh on partial disability. Apart from this, workers were given a universal account number on registration, which was especially convenient for migrant workers for the portability of social security schemes, ration cards etc.
