Workshop on Bone Health & Nutrition in Children

Tatsat Foundation in collaboration with Shubham Housing Finance organised a workshop on Bone Health & Nutrition for Persons with Disability (PwDs) at National Association for Blind School, Sector 5 R.K.Puram New Delhi, on Saturday, April 08, 2023. The workshop was driven by Dr Dhananjay Gupta- Director of Orthopedics, Spine Surgery, Arthroscopies & Joint Replacement Fortis Hospital Vasant Kunj, New Delhi who has been working in the field of Regenerative and Reconstructive orthopedic surgeries for more than 28 years.

The workshop was a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of Shubham Housing Finance, a leader in providing housing finance solutions to those with informal incomes.[smartslider3 slider=”6″]

Beneficiaries

 A total of 20 students with visual impairment and multiple disabilities in the age group of 10 to 19 years at the National Association for Blind School, Sector 5 R.K.Puram New Delhi

Project Aim

 The intent was to educate PwDs students from classes 5th to 12th about the importance of bone health, bone structures, joints, cartilage and muscles, skeletal system functions, and nutrition’s role in developing a healthy skeletal system.

The students were given models of the bone structure, joints, cartilage, and muscles by Dr Dhananjay’s team so that they could experience how they felt and understand the significance of each. Students relished their education.

Project Outcome/ Output

Learning about the importance of bone health, bone structures, joints, cartilage, and muscles, as well as the functions of the skeletal system and the role that nutrition plays in the development of a healthy skeletal system, is a key component of inclusive education, which aims to increase the knowledge of students with disabilities. 

Long-term outcome

  • To sensitize children about the importance of bone health, bone structures, joints, cartilage and muscles, skeletal system functions, and nutrition’s role in developing a healthy skeletal system.
  • Give children with visual impairment and multiple disabilities an immersive learning experience.
  • More such workshops will be conducted for children with disabilities to build environmental awareness and conservation awareness.
