Gajendra Shekhawat Inaugurates Four-Day Roorkee Water Conclave

Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of Jal Shakti today inaugurated the second edition of the Roorkee Water Conclave at IIT Roorkee and addressed the Conclave in Virtual Mode. The four-day conclave will focus primarily on water security for sustainable development.

The objective of the conclave is to promote sustainable water management and sanitation for all. Keeping in sight the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the conclave hopes to maintain safe access to water, address water scarcity, sanitation and risks to sustainable water use.

G. Ashok Kumar, Director General, National Mission, Saaf Ganga, R. K. Gupta, Chairman, Central Water Commission. Prof. Ajit Chatterjee, Director, IIT Road, and Dr J. Veer Tyagi, Director, National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee were present on the occasion.

The theme of this year’s conclave is Water Supply for Sustainable Development. It will focus on understanding water security and its multiple facets underpinning sustainable water resource management as a key component of social development.

Speaking on the occasion, G. Ashok Kumar, Director, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), said that water supply has become a major topic of discussion around the world for sustainability. He added, Roorkee Water Conclave 2022 would help in solving the problem of water scarcity and in sustainable use and sanitation of water.

The NMCG has organised an exhibition at the conclave till March 7, 2022, highlighting various aspects of the river Ganga and its conservation and rehabilitation efforts. The exhibition was inaugurated by G. Ashok Kumar, Director General, NMCG. The aim of the exhibition is to raise awareness for the protection and rehabilitation of the river.
