Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Virendra Kumar inaugurated the new office of the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (CCPD) at NISD Bhawan, Sector 10, Dwarka, New Delhi, today.
Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhowmik and Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) cum CCPD, Anjali Bhavra were present on the occasion.
The CCPD office works independently to deal with the grievances of persons with disabilities (PwD) and protect the rights mentioned under the RPWD Act, 2016.
Though this office is functioning since September 1998, it did not have enough space available to fully accommodate its employees and activities. The new office located at Dwarka has all the requisite facilities, ample space and a suitable location friendly to the differently abled.

The office building is equipped with facilities such as a lift, railing, tactile flooring, sign language interpreter, Divyang-friendly reception, toilets and waiting area, among other.
The union minister also appreciated the efforts of the CCPD office for redressal of grievances of PwD, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, in which all complaints were being heard in online mode despite limited human resources and infrastructure. The office is completely digital-friendly and has implemented online hearing of cases, e-office file activity, and online assistance for hearing-impaired persons through sign language interpretation.
