Department of Food and Public Distribution

The Department of Food and Public Distribution stepped out on the occasion of the Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to release a short film that basically creates awareness about the various procurement drives and operations around the country. This film was launched by Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Environment, Forest and Climate Change.  During the launch of the film Minister Choubey mentioned how there was a focus on ensuring that farmers received the MSP – minimum support price – as a part of their procurement drives. This helps the farmers in getting the right price for their crop and produce along with a good profit too.

In the course of his address, minister Choubey also mentioned how the Department of Food and Public Distribution was dedicated to the cause of uplifting farmers and their welfare in particular. He spoke of the work being done by the Department along with the support of Nodal government agencies to ensure that essential and staple crops like paddy are priced, procured and distributed in a way that helps the largest number of farmers possible in the bargain.

This points directly at inclusion since it ensures that the welfare of farmers is placed before profit for the state and that the farmers should get to enjoy the economic benefit of such opportunities rather than merely pouring into a bottomless cup. This kind of a film also points at the essential elements that create the basis for rural development in the country as well. With this film, the Department of Food and Public Distribution has also shown how it uses welfare measures to regulate the procurement and distribution of various crops so that the farmer is the one with the maximum and most impactful socio economic benefit in such a scenario.
