Secy Youth Affairs, Sports participates in Clean India Programme in Delhi

Usha Sharma, Secretary of the Division of Youth Affairs, and Sujata Chaturvedi, Secretary of the Division of Sports Activities, took part in the Clear India effort in Nehru Park

On October 1, 2021, Union Minister of YAS Shri Anurag Thakur launched the month-long Clean India Programme. As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, a Cleanliness Drive is being organised to encourage people to participate in the cleanup of rubbish, particularly single-use plastic waste. Ms. Usha Sharma, Secretary of the Department of Youth Affairs, and Ms. Sujata Chaturvedi, Secretary of the Department of Sports, joined volunteers in a Clean India drive at Nehru Park in Chanakyapuri this morning. Before the cleanliness initiative began, Smt. Usha Sharma administered the Swachhta Pledge. Officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs, NYKS, and NSS were in attendance.

Ms. Usha Sharma, speaking on the occasion, said that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ Department of Youth Affairs is planning a statewide Clean India Program from October 1 to October 31, 2021, in honour of Azadi KaAmrit Mahotsava. Through the networks of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) connected Youth Clubs and National Service Scheme associated Institutions, the programme is being implemented in 6 lakh villages throughout 744 districts across the country. Ms. Usha Sharma went on to say that with this massive programme, we have set a goal of collecting 75 million kg of waste, primarily plastic waste, with citizen support and volunteer involvement. “Through Jan Bhagidari, people from all walks of life are contributing to this programme and making it a People’s Movement,” she continued. Ms. Sujata Chaturvedi, Secretary of the Department of Sports, said, “Through this campaign, we are attempting to influence people’s attitudes; it is only when people grasp the value of cleanliness that they make it a habit.”

Clean India is a youth-led initiative coordinated by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), connected Youth Clubs, and National Service SchemeAffiliated Institutions, as well as a diverse group of partners.
