MNRE & FICCI Discuss Ways to Achieve Net Zero

The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) jointly organised a Chintan Baithak on “Roadmap to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070” today to brainstorm on India’s renewable energy roadmap for achieving the goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2070.

Union Minister for Energy and New and Renewable Energy, R.K. Singh delivered the keynote address and elaborated on India’s plans for cross-sectoral net zero and energy exchange. He highlighted priorities, issues and the need for climate finance to facilitate global energy change.

The meeting had discussions with business leaders sharing a number of issues and suggestions to overcome challenges facing the industry. Indu Shekhar Chaturvedi, Secretary, MNRE, provided insights into the issues raised by these leaders in relation to Centre’s policies and programmes.

The brainstorming session in the meeting was chaired by Indu Shekhar Chaturvedi, Secretary, MNRE. Alok Kumar, Secretary, Vidyut delivered the inaugural address and presentations were given by the Chief Secretary, Rajasthan. Chief Secretary, Gujarat, Chairman, Central Electricity Authority, Managing Director, Chairman and Co-Chairman of Solar Energy Corporation of India, FICCI Renewable Energy Council.

Arun Chawla, Director General, FICCI welcomed the participants and set the context for the Baithak. Richa Sharma, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change briefed the participants on the evolution of the net-zero agenda, India’s stand at various international forums, and potential pathways to attain net-zero by 2070.
