he Royal Thai Consulate-General Kolkata celebrated the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand, the birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, and Thailand’s Father’s Day virtually. On the occasion, Kasemsan Thongsiri, Acting Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata, gave a speech through a video on social media. The video message was followed by another video presenting a glimpse of the cultural values of Thailand.

In his speech, Kasemsan Thongsiri underlined the importance of this Thai National Day celebration, which coincides with the birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, father of Thailand’s current monarch. The Acting Consul-General of Thailand went next to enumerate activities of the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata in the year 2021, ranging from visits to Andaman and Nicobar Islands to the donation of one portable X-ray machine and one anaesthesia Boyle’s machine to a public hospital in Gaya, Bihar. The Consulate also reiterated the success of its online activities, such as the Thai Festival 2021 – Online Edition as well as Thai culinary video shows Aaharn-Aahaar and Learn Thai to Impress short videos, which received tremendous participation and popular feedback from thousands of pan-Indian public audience.

Kasemsan Thongsiri stated the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata has resumed its visa granting and hopes that the commercial flights between Thailand and India resume soon. As reminded in the speech, that 2022 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and India. He mentioned the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata’s ongoing flagship project, the establishment of the Thai Gallery at Jorasanko Thakur Bari, Rabindra Bharati Museum, to permanently house the exhibition by the Thai Consulate entitled, Tagore’s Visit to Siam: Prelude to the Modern-Day Chapter of Thai-Indian Relations. The exhibition narrates Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to Siam in 1927 and its related highlight activities, such as the royal audience with His Majesty King Rama VII of Siam, meetings and calls on princes and dignitaries in charge of education, apart from visits to Buddhist temples and many important sites in Bangkok, old capital Ayutthaya and adjacent province Saraburi.
