India’s largest power generating company, NTPC Limited, has unveiled a renewed biodiversity policy for 2022 to set an ambitious approach and guideline for biodiversity conservation, restoration and enhancement, said the union power ministry in a statement.

The company said its goals were in line with environmental and sustainable policies and designed to help all NTPC Group professionals contribute to the achievement of these goals.

The goal of enhanced energy is to integrate the concept of biodiversity across the NTPC value chain and sustainable management of biodiversity in all decision-making processes to ensure diversity of life around the NTPC business units.

The policy aims to take a systematic consideration of local biodiversity threats outside the company’s activities.

NTPC is the first PSU to publish a biodiversity policy in 2018. In the same year, NTPC became a member of the India Trade and Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI).

As part of its capacity building, NTPC raises biodiversity awareness among local communities, workers and stakeholders through national and project-specific training in collaboration with experts.

NTPC collaborates with nationally and internationally recognized local communities, organizations, regulators and research institutes in the field of biodiversity.

In addition, NTPC will observe biodiversity legal compliance while complying with the rules and regulations of the environment, forests, wildlife, coastal and green areas during the planning and implementation of its projects.
