Chief Commissioner, Delhi Customs Zone, has dedicated the Drishti se Shristi project of the ICD Tughlakabad Import Commissionerate, which relates to the renovation of five blind schools and hostels in Delhi under the Swachhta Action plan of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), as a contribution towards women empowerment and self-dependence of the visually challenged and/or differently-abled young women and men.

The project, with a cost of ₹40.70 lakh, has made a direct impact on 2,100 visually challenged women and men in the last three years.

Bhujabal visited the NAB India Centre for Blind Women and Disability Studies, Hauz Khas, and inspected the work of renovating the school and hostel-cum-residential lodgings through reinforcement, waterproofing, painting, modifying the toilets, and use of guiding tiles on the floor for easy manoeuvring at the centre.

The NAB India Centre trains 135 women every year to become professionally self-reliant in the areas of digital awareness, industry software of KPOs/BPOs, medical training, detecting breast cancer, knitting and sewing skills and handcraft training, and cooking.

The Chief Commissioner, Delhi Customs Zone, along with other dignitaries, saw a film on the work done at all the five locations under the programme and the impact created. Senior representatives of these centres were present on the occasion to give a first-hand account of the work.

The students presented a skit on the theme of women’s empowerment. This year’s theme of International Women’s Day, Break the bias, is ingrained in this project, as half of the beneficiaries are women students, who are becoming self-dependent through education and skill set training, said the official statement.

Principal Commissioner, ICD TKD Import, Sanjay Gupta, who led the team of officers undertaking the project, Principal Commissioner, ACC Import, Simmi Jain, Commissioner, ICD TKD Export, Limatula Yaden, and ICD TKD Import Joint Commissioners, Gunjan Kumar, Shekhar Kumar and Nisha Gupta were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.

ICD Tughlakabad (TKD) caters to the need of importers and exporters and is the biggest inland dry port of North India.
