Solar Alliance : The International Solar Alliance’s (ISA) fourth general assembly will be conducted virtually between October 18th and October 21st, 2021, and will be presided over by Shri R.K. Singh, India’s Minister for Power, New and Renewable Energy, and President of the ISA Assembly. John Kerry, the United States’ Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change, will deliver the keynote talk on October 20th, while Frans Timmermans, the European Commission’s Executive Vice President for the European Green Deal, will also speak at the Solar Alliance event.

On October 18th, 2021, the ISA Secretariat will host a series of technical sessions on the organization’s various strategic initiatives, as well as technical sessions on various emerging issues in the solar and clean energy sector in collaboration with partners and other organisations on October 20th and 21st, 2021. The ISA’s Fourth Assembly will discuss significant initiatives such as the OSOWOG initiative’s operationalization, the $1 trillion Solar Investment Roadmap for 2030, and the approval of a Blended Financial Risk Mitigation Facility.

World leaders from ISA member countries will also discuss the ISA’s five-year strategic plan, which includes a Country Partnership Framework, a Strategy for Private Sector Engagement, and initiatives such as the Viability Gap Financing scheme, which aims to make solar energy projects more affordable across the ISA’s membership. The ISA will also examine a relationship with the Global Energy Alliance (GEA) to help LDCs and SIDS scale up technical and financial assistance. At the Assembly, a thorough report on OSOWOG is likely to be discussed. The idea of a unified global solar grid was initially proposed at the ISA’s First Assembly in late 2018. It aims to create and scale inter-regional energy systems to exchange solar energy around the globe, taking use of time zones, seasons, resources, and costs disparities between countries and regions. OSOWOG will also aid in the decarbonization of energy generation, which is the world’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions today.
