FAME India Scheme Phase-II Supported About 1.65 lakh EVs: Minister of Heavy Industries

Ministry of Heavy Industries, as on 25 November 2021, supported 1.65 lakh electric vehicles (EVs) through Demand Incentives of about Rs.564 crore and sanctioned 6,315 electrical buses to various State/City Transport Undertakings under Phase-II of Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Scheme. The ministry also sanctioned 2,877 EVs charging stations of about Rs.500 crore in 68 cities and 1,576 charging stations of about Rs. 108 crore across nine Expressways and 16 Highways under the phase, Minister of State for Power and Heavy Industries Krishan Pal Gurjar informed the Lok Sabha.

The second phase of FAME India focuses on supporting electrification of public and shared transport and aims to support, through subsidies, about 7,000 e-buses, 5 lakh e-three-wheelers, 55,000 e-four-wheeler passenger cars and 10 lakh e-two-wheelers. In addition, creation of charging infrastructure is supported. The FAME-India Scheme has four focus areas of demand creation, pilot project, technology development/R&D and charging infrastructure. The Phase-II of FAME India Scheme was launched on 8 March 2019 for a period of five years and budget of Rs. 10,000 crores.
