Continuing its people-friendly CSR activities, Orissa Stevedores Limited (OSL) has donated ₹10,00,000 to Manam Foundation.

The foundation is dedicated to the improvement, development and maintenance of mental health of various target groups, which require special attention and effort for their mental well being.

On behalf of the OSL Group, P.K. Panda, Executive Director (HR & IR) handed over the cheque to Dr Anuradha Mahapatra, Founder, Manam Foundation. The money will be used for more beneficial work in mental health through services, awareness, education, formation of support groups and advocacy.

Speaking on the occasion, Mahimananda Mishra, Chairman and Managing Director, OSL Group said, “We firmly believe there is not only an opportunity, but an obligation for the private sector to play a critical role in addressing the problem. The OSL Group is proud to be making an impact on this critical issue.”

It is to be noted that OSL Group, as one of the leading business houses of the state, is helping the Government of Odisha through its various charitable activities during the COVID-19 crisis.

In a quick response to the Chief Minister’s call to wear masks following the dreaded COVID-19 outbreak, OSL Group had distributed one lakh masks to raise awareness among the general public about the merits of wearing masks.

In addition, the group has extensive logistics support for offloading of medical oxygen cylinders at the port of Paradip.

WHO estimates that the burden of mental health problems in India is 2443 disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) per 1,00,000 population; the age-adjusted suicide rate per 1,00,000 population is 21.1. The economic loss due to mental health conditions, between 2012-2030, is estimated at $1.03 trillion.
