Ayushi, a history teacher at a public school in Delhi, ranked 48th in the 2021 Civil Service Examination, the results of which were announced by the Union Public Service Commission on Monday. Blind from birth, the 29-year-old did not let her disability overwhelm her.

Ayushi said she was confident she would pass the test, but getting a rank below 50 was a pleasant surprise. “My dream has come true. It’s great to know my name is on the top 50 list. Everyone is happy for me. I feel blessed,” said Ayushi.

She graduated from a private school in Rani Kheda and graduated from Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, Delhi University. Later, she earned a master’s degree in history from IGNOU. “I come from an ordinary family. Growing up, my only goal was to find a job. In 2016, I started preparing for the test in support of my mother,” said Ayushi.

Her father works in a private company in Punjab and her mother is a housewife. Her husband is currently pursuing an MBA in Australia. She credits her success to her mother, who voluntarily retired as head nurse in 2020. “I was doing my job for the civil service. To help me with my preparations, my mother withdrew. Difficulties always come but with the support of my mother and my family I have been able to overcome them. He would record the contents of the book for me so that I could study from my notes.”

Ayushi began her journey as a contracted primary teacher at MCD School. After passing the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) exam in 2019, she started her current job as a history teacher. Currently, she teaches history to students in 11th and 12th classes at Government Secondary School No. 2, located at Mubarakpur Dabas.
