Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Mansukh Mandaviya today launched the research portal of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in the presence of the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers, Bhagwanth Khuba and Member of Policy Commission (Health) Dr VK Paul. The NIPER portal has been launched with the objective to disseminate information about all NIPERs and their research activities, patents filed and publication information in one place, so that the industry and other stakeholders know about them.
Highlighting the importance of healthy competition both in industry and academia, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya said that research and development are one of the important pillars for the country’s economy. “We need to harness this energy of the aspirations of all the stakeholders and create a holistic ecosystem,” he said, adding, “Our expertise in generics can be expanded to other areas as well.”
The minister said that the country already has young talent and human resources, but we need to manage them effectively through industry-academic collaboration. To enhance this industry-academic collaboration, the Department of Pharmaceuticals has created this research portal to capture the research activities of all the seven NIPERs. he said.
Bhagwanth Khuba said India is the third-largest pharmaceutical manufacturing country and our vaccine development story is an example of effective cooperation among stakeholders. He said that the platform will track the research and tasks of all NIPERS. He further said that the Government is committed to promoting research and innovation and this portal is a step in that direction.
The purpose of the new portal is to certify the availability of ongoing research work. This will help other researchers, especially the industry, to get in touch with relevant bodies so that they can work together and make research more objective and meaningful, said the official statement.
Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers requested all relevant research institutes such as the Department of Biotechnology, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of AYUSH and ICMR and even DRDO, where research related to pharma happens, to join the portal.
