Three-day virtual dance event ‘Dance of India @75’ begins tomorrow

Mega-event ‘Dance of India @75’, a three-day virtual dance competition oganised by cultural icon of India and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, Padma Vibhushan Dr. Sonal Mansingh starts tomorrow, July 22, 2021 and will culminate on the auspicious day of ‘Guru Purnima’ on July 24, 2021. The dance competition is being organized through her academy The Centre for Indian Classical Dances (CICD), also known as Shri Kamakhya Kalapeeth

Dr. Sonal Mansingh in a curtain raiser video informed that the grand event is being held in eight (8) styles of India’s rich tradition of classical dances viz. Odissi. Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, Sattriya and Kathakali. Entries to the virtual dance competition were invited on three themes; namely Atmanibhar Bharat, Vishwa Guru Bharat and Unsung Heroes of India and under solo and group categories.

The danseuse called upon the young generation to come forward to keep this art form alive so that the great Indian tradition lives on. She said the entire event is ‘By the artists, For the artists’. She added saying “Whatever funds we get as contribution are put in “Kalakaar Sahaay Fund’ and by God’s grace in last one year we have been able to help many artists through this fund”. The main objective of The Centre for Indian Classical Dances (CICD) behind holding the event is that the performing arts have been the worst hit in the pandemic”.
