Sustainable Start-Ups Key to Future Economy, Says Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh

Youth must take the lead through innovative start-ups to make India a $5 trillion economy by 2024-25, the union minister said

Sustainability in start-ups is linked with livelihood opportunities and is the key to the future economy of India, said Union Minister of State Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh. Speaking at the inauguration of the seventh edition of the India International Science Festival (IISF 2021) at Panaji, Goa, the minister exhorted the youth to take the lead through innovative start-ups to make India a $5 trillion economy by 2024-25. He encouraged youth to create alternate sources of livelihood by exploring avenues in sectors such as agriculture, dairy, animal husbandry, healthcare, education, pharma, logistics and waste to wealth through innovative start-ups ecosystem. The main aim of the four-day science festival is to bring into use the innovations by the people and develop technology that is affordable to the masses, added Dr Jitendra Singh.

Describing youth comprising more than 70% of India’s present population as the country’s greatest asset, the minister said, like the emphasis on sustainable goals, we must stress building sustainable start-ups. The minister said, these start-ups are connecting rural India with advanced solutions and services, creating job opportunities, and emerging as innovative and accelerating programmes for the digital India campaign.

Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of State (MoS) for the Ministry of Tourism and Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shripad Naik, Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, Minister of Science and Technology, Government of Madhya Pradesh Shri Omprakash Saklecha, Secretary Ministry of Earth Sciences, Dr M. Ravichandran, President Vijnana Bharati, Dr Vijay Bhatkar and senior scientists and officials were present at the inaugural function of IISF.
