Marathwada

According to a report prepared by the Aurangabad Divisional Commissioner’s office, only seven out of 76 urban centres in eight districts of Maharashtra’s Marathwada region are getting daily water supply, which paints a grim picture highlighting the acute water shortage.

The gap between two water supplies ranges from one to 15 days. The highest gap of 15 days is in Badnapur town of Jalna district, said the report.

All 76 urban centres mentioned in the report have a Nagar Palika or Nagar panchayat.

Six of them are in the Nanded district: Kundalwadi, Kinwat, Dharmabad, Biloli, Ardhpur and Himayatnagar. He said that the seventh city is Paithan in the Aurangabad district which is situated on the bank of the Godavari river.

Latur district which got water by train in 2016 is not a city where it gets water daily

Nilanga in the Latur district is supplied with water every other day. According to the report, there is a gap of between three and ten days between water supply in eight other towns in the Latur district.

The situation in Badnapur town of Jalna is most critical as water is supplied once every 15 days, then Ausa (Latur) is supplied after 11 days and Deoni (Latur) supplies water. Reportedly after a gap of 10 days.

Earlier this week, the BJP organized a ‘Jalakrosh’ morcha in Aurangabad (where residents get water once a week) over the issue of water scarcity. Party’s main leader Devendra Fadnavis and two Union ministers took part in the agitation.
