As part of its CSR initiative in Punjab, the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Power will be constructing primary health centres (PHCs) at Mallanwala and Kassowanna in Ferozpur district. The project at the cost of ₹ 3.22 crores is part of the many CSR initiatives that POWERGRID is taking up in the district.

Ferozpur is one of the aspirational districts, assigned to POWERGRID for its all-around socio-economic development and ensuring inclusive growth for all under the centre’s flagship initiative “Transformation of aspirational districts”. The construction of these PHCs is expected to improve the basic healthcare facilities in the district leading to more recoveries during the pandemic.

Earlier, the POWERGRID had handed over 3 ambulances to the district administration of Ferozpur. In addition to this, 282 sanitary napkin vending machines and an equal number of incinerators were installed in 217 government middle, high and senior secondary girl’s and co-education schools in the district.

Besides this, POWERGRID has sanctioned ₹1.98 crore for providing four special purpose vehicles (SPVs) for Himachal Pradesh. Two trucks mounted with a sweeping machine with vacuum cleaners and a mounted compactor have been handed over to Shimla municipal corporation.

Earlier, an SPV mounted vacuum-assisted road sweeper, two sewer cleaning jetting vehicle machines costing ₹1.31 crore were handed over to a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), Manali. Apart from this, 3250 solars LED street lights and 13000 twin bins dustbins were supplied and installed in various parts of Himachal Pradesh. The cost incurred on this was ₹11.49 crores. POWERGRID has also undertaken a skill development programme for the youth of Lahaul and Spiti districts, through infrastructure additions & capacity building in the field of mountaineering & allied activities, at the cost of ₹32 lakhs.
