Larsen & Toubro Spends Rs 150 Crore on CSR in FY 2021

Engineering firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T) spent Rs 150 crore on corporate social responsibility activities in FY 2021, affecting 1.21 million beneficiaries, reported Business Standard.

At the very beginning of the year, L&T handed over two Integrated Community Development Projects (ICDPs) to the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of Tamil Nadu in Kalangal village in Sulur block under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts.

“With a CSR expenditure of Rs 1,500 crore in FY2021, with 108 partners and several thousand suppliers and contractors, L&T’s social enterprise has reached 1.21 million beneficiaries.” said the report.

The organization says the goal of building India’s social infrastructure is to improve living standards, reduce social inequality, develop self-reliance and help people achieve their true potential.

The CSR initiatives of the company’s effort in water and sanitation projects have yielded positive outcomes for more than 1,10,525 people in the affected areas.

In addition, more than 35,500 people were trained in skilling and reskilling in different sectors, making them employable.

L&T extends its skill development programmes through nine Construction Skills Training Institutes (CSTIs) spread across India.

“Far from being a mandatory obligation, giving back to society has been ingrained in the L&T culture all along. We do it simply because in our hearts we feel it is the right thing to do,” L&T CEO and MD S N Subrahmanyan said.

Besides skill development programmes, one of the biggest outreaches has been in the health sector in which 822,967 people were beneficiaries.

L&T provides affordable and good quality healthcare in urban and remote areas in the form of permanent health centres, mobile medical vans and free medical care for underprivileged sections of society.

The company also played roles in relief during the COVID-19 pandemic. They delivered 40 oxygen generating units to various hospitals. Medical kits, equipment and several high-grade ambulances were also provided to hospitals and NGOs working in the healthcare field. 42 ventilators were procured to civil and dedicated COVID-19 to hospitals across the country.

The company also contributed Rs 150 crore to the PM Cares Fund.
