Vedanta Ltd announced on Thursday that it invested Rs 331 crore on corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes in the 2020-21 fiscal year, benefiting 4.23 crore people. The company stated in its first social impact — CSR report that it spent Rs 331 crore on various CSR actions in the previous fiscal year, with a focus on pandemic relief, children’s well-being and education, ladies empowerment, healthcare, sustainable agriculture and animal welfare, environment safety and restoration, and development of neighbourhood infrastructure, amongst others.

“Through its many social development efforts, Vedanta Ltd has positively impacted the lives of 4.23 crore people across the country,” the company said in a statement. Vedanta asserted that as part of its numerous activities, it provided critical assistance in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic. Vedanta has committed Rs 201 crore to the fight against COVID-19, including a Rs 101 crore donation to the PM-CARES Fund and an additional Rs 100 crore corpus for supporting communities, daily wage employees, preventive healthcare, and worker welfare, as well as contract partners and business partners. Vedanta’s Covid Care efforts have benefited as many as 15 lakh people. Furthermore, under Vedanta Cares, discipline hospitals were equipped with 100 critical care beds with oxygen and ventilator support in ten locations this year, and over 20 lakh litres of oxygen were delivered to Covid-affected patients.

Vedanta unveiled the Anil Agarwal Basis’s (AAF) social development vision earlier this year and contributed Rs 5,000 crore as part of its ‘Give Again’ initiative to support its rural upliftment programmes. According to the company, AAF’s ‘Swasth Gaon Abhiyaan’ would provide end-to-end healthcare services in 1,000 villages across 12 states, affecting the lives of more than 2 million people. In collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Children’s Development (MoWCD), AAF is also implementing its flagship Nand Ghar initiative, which aims to provide crucial access to nutrition, healthcare, education, and girls empowerment.
