Home Delivery of Medicines Begins Under MoD’s Teleconsultation Service, SeHAT

Beginning February 1, 2022, home delivery of medicines has begun under Services e-Health Assistance and Teleconsultation (SeHAT). Launched on 27 May 2021 by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, SeHAT is a teleconsultation service of the three wings of the Ministry of Defense designed for serving military personnel, veterans and their families.

SeHAT Stay Home OPD has been developed by HQ IDS and DGAFMS in collaboration with the Centre for Development for Advanced Computing (CDAC Mohali). The programme is based on the lines of eSanjeevani, a similar free OPD service run by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India for all citizens.

SeHATOPD is a patient-to-doctor system where the patient can consult a doctor remotely through the internet. The consultation occurs through video, audio and chat at the same time. SeHATOPD will initially cater to the needs of general OPD consultation. In future, it is proposed to be extended to specialist OPD consultation.

Individuals desirous of home delivery or self-pickup can indicate their preference while logging in. Initially, the project will start with Base Hospital Delhi Cantt and will be extended to more stations in the coming time.

It is designed to be extremely simple and easy to use, requiring minimal effort from the users. User is not required to pay anything for taking teleconsultation and can access the services by simply visiting https://sehatopd.gov.in, or by using SeHAT app available on Play Store and App Store.

Since its inception, there have been over 10,000 successful teleconsultations at the health facility involving a strong team of over 2,000 doctors.

What is Telemedicine?

As per World Health Organization, telemedicine is the delivery of health care services, where distance is a critical factor, by all health care professionals using IT for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease and injuries, research and evaluation, etc. all in the interests of advancing the health of individuals and their communities.

How to Register at SeHAT Portal?

You need to Initially fill out the online registering form available on SeHAT with your and your family’s Aadhaar card and other details. This should be saved after filling. After this, you need to approach a SeHAT registered AMA with an Aadhaar card/ ECHS registration number and other identifying documents of your family. Only after validating these documents will you be able to consult the doctors on SeHAT. Once registered you can use it repeatedly for 1 year after which you will have to renew your registration.
