Gangavaram Port Gives ₹25 Lakh Under CSR to Indian Railways’ Waltair Division

Originally named the Waltair railway station, Visakhapatnam station was founded in 1896. In 1987, it was renamed Visakhapatnam.

As part of corporate social responsibility (CSR), Gangavaram Port came forward to pay ₹25 lakh to the Waltair or Visakhapatnam Division of the Indian Railways to maintain cleanliness at the Visakhapatnam Railway Station.

The CSR funds will be used to procure dumpsters, and waste and degradable product collection units that will be set up at the railway station and railway colony.

N Sambasiva Rao, Chief Executive Officer of Gangavaram Port Limited, presented a cheque for ₹25 lakh to Divisional Railway Manager, Waltair, Anup Satpathy at his office in the presence of ADRM (Operations) Manoj Kumar Sahoo.

Speaking on the occasion, DRM appreciated the efforts of Gangavaram Port Limited for making the CSR funds available for public use.

The Visakhapatnam Railway station was awarded the Platinum rating by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for adopting green concepts, thereby reducing the adverse environmental impacts. It is the third station in the country to attain the IGBC Platinum rating.

In 2017, Visakhapatnam Railway Station was recognised as the cleanest railway station in the country by the Quality Council of India. The station went on to win several accolades in 2019 as well. The station also bagged the national tourism award for being the best tourist-friendly railway station in the country.
