Companies That Use the Highest Percentage of Green Energy

September 30, 2021

Green energy was formerly considered a small sector of the energy industry, but it is quickly becoming a vital source of energy in many regions and countries throughout the world

This infographic from SolarPower.Guide displays the top 50 greenest organisations, based on the largest proportion of green energy used in their entire consumption mix, based on data from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). As renewable energy becomes more inexpensive, prominent corporations such as Google, Wells Fargo, and Apple are making significant investments. It also helps that institutional investors are already moving companies in that direction, especially as they focus more on including ESG into their portfolios.

Some people are perplexed by the term “green energy,” which is frequently simply referred to as “renewables” by others. So, what exactly is green energy, and how does it vary from other renewable energy sources? Green energy is a subset of renewable energy that refers to the energy sources and technologies that are most beneficial to the environment. Green power is defined as electricity generated from solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, suitable biomass, and low-impact small hydroelectric sources, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Other renewable energy sources exist, however they may not be totally green according to the EPA’s definition. While enormous hydro projects, for example, provide a renewable source of electricity, they can also have a significant environmental impact. The same can be said about non-eligible biomass, which includes biomass that isn’t quite carbon-neutral. Major corporations are looking at the wider picture and establishing aims to attain carbon neutrality, in addition to using green power for operations.

Here are the top 10 companies that use the highest percentage of green power:
The Estee Lauder Companies Inc. – 139% (91,843,084 kWh annual total power)
